Reviews
This place is pretty cool. I'd describe it as a Mexican fusion taqueria. The interior feels very modern, the atmosphere fits the decor, the music was a perfect volume. Loud enough that you could hear the faint dance-type beats, but low enough that the chatter throughout could still drown it a bit. I kind of thought it felt a bit like some Manhattan hotel lobby. As for the service, it was fantastic. Our server was attentive and very friendly. She was right there when we needed something, but made herself scarce when we didn't. I couldn't ask for better service. The food was excellent. We had chips and verde salsa, which I loved. We did half/half corn and flour chips. If I had to do it again, I'd just get corn chips. The flour were clearly homemade, but were a bit too dense for me for an appetizer. The tacos are all a la carte. I had a birria taco and two carne asadas. The birria taco was fantastic, and I'd get it again. The carne were good, but the tortilla left something to be desired. The guts of the taco were fine, but the shell just seemed like a flour tortilla out of a bag. There must be something they can do to make that a better experience. I will absolutely return.
I enjoyed the wooden valve. They have a good bourbon selection and a good sample of craft beers. I like the ambience on the "newer" side that seems to feel more like a bar or lounge; where as the other side felt a bit "dinerish". As for the food, I'd like to see a few more options; I was able to find something, but others in my group couldn't. The Cubano I went with was pretty darn good, one of the better I've had in the area. I'd go back for sure and look forward to future menu items.
Good Go to for Food and Fun!!! Service is exceptional! Stoped in with family & friends and was pleasantly surprised! We had chicken Tacos with street corn & beans soo good and the delicious nacho platter with chicken so so good!!!! All of the servers are outstanding Glad your in town
So one month in I am updating my review. Our first visit was within the first 2 week of being open I got a steak and chicken taco and of coarse bells hopslam. The tacos were an explosion of flavor in your mouth. I also tried many beers the had on tap. The had like 30 on tap. Big choices to make! We also got a salsa flight which was very original. Kudos for this. I gave the establishment a 4.8 on the first visit given there will be growing pains. This evening my wife and I attended the right brain take over... I was impressed this establishment earned a solid 5/5 stars in my book. I was wowed by the pork belly tacos. I was fortunate enough to meet the owner and chef. I shared how pleased I was with the pork belly tacos. The salsa verde was great.. I could tell it was made in house.. very good in my book! The texture resembled freshly made verde. They also gave a very generous amount of chips. The right brain beer was perfect. My favorite was the hazy Norman. If The wooden valve keeps these mini events rolling in that'd be awesome. I hope to see more bbq on a regular basis. Between fins and the wooden valve I see me self being a regular.
Wooden Valve = Blind Owl (New ownership back in March/April) Got in at 4pm when it opened and was nicely greeted with menus, small amount of selection but it's a "Bar/Pub" No drinks for us just water My GF grabbed the loaded nachos I had the Southern Salad with Steak Both of the meals were delivered in good time... but the food.... Very good!!! Only wish more steak and smaller peppers in the salad, but the salad had a wonderful taste I wanted more! The loaded nachos comes out on a cookie sheet tons of chicken and other items well worth the money, as Guy would say "Taking me to Flavor Town" The waitress was very friendly and came by multiple times filling our water The restaurant seemed nice and clean We will definitely be coming back!!
